Hohne Pools was set up in 1954 when L. C. Hohne responded to the public demand for a distinctive pool builder. Almost 45 years ago, Hohne started as a swimming pool builder for the construction and renovation of pools, employing only himself. Hohne received the 1st license for swimming pool construction in the State of Maryland, license number 377.

Brighton Pools did a great job for me when they did my coping and tile on a 15 year-old built in pool that is is on the large side. The they did the work just after the last bit of snow we had in Maryland and made sure that the weather was warm enough to do cement work. I would certainly recommend them and Gary took care of me well and didn't let me worry about anything. They will be re-surfacing my pool in a year or two. I have trust issues with contractors and Gary took care of that.

Very unprofessional! Took over 8,000$ and damaged pool even further with no actual work completed! Then requested MORE money to actually complete work even though parents were quoted and guaranteed work would be completed with Initial quote before selling date of house. Parents have been waiting since August to get money back! Many calls and emails back and forth with either complete attitude or being ignored!

Gary was professional, responsive, and patient in answering all the texts and phone calls during this process. Gary was present everyday of work - even on the weekend. There were quite a few employees and company reps that worked on our pool and can't say enough about the professional employees Gary has. They were prompt, answered any question we had, and even tolerated our 5 dogs. The pool looks amazing and PVC membrane was the perfect choice for us. It exceeded our expectations. Glad we took Gary's advice and replaced the coping. Highly recommend.

We contacted Hohne Pools to replace our liner after a storm. They were the 1st company to respond, gave an excellent proposal for the scope of work. After a brief delay in receipt of the liner(not their fault, Covid delay) the work was scheduled and completed quickly. When we thought there was an issue, the company sent a crew right away to examine & troubleshoot. Resolution was timely & professional. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR POOL WORK, I INSTALLATION ETC!

Working with Gary Hohne was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. He will be responsive at first and make you think he knows what he is talking about, but turns into a completely different person once you write that first check. All work is subcontracted and he never showed up once to oversee it. 3 years after the renovation, our pool is still not right.
The coping is falling apart and the bottom just wasn't done correctly. It is heartbreaking to spend over $40,000 and end up scrambling and spending more money to try to fix something that we should be just enjoying at this point.

I had them put in a new pool liner and salt line. The owner was the one who came out. He quoted me a price and we discussed the details of the work that were listed in the contract. First issue was that they did not have the vinyl lining I wanted. Tried to sell me on a thinner type. Was wondering if he even cared about the quality I was looking for at that point. Mept saying he didn't know if he could get what I wanted over the Summer. Really?
The crew that came to do the work was definitely cutting corners and did not complete the work as expected. As they were working I was asking why they were doing certain things and was getting some vague responses. When I was very young I worked for a pool business. I called the owner who just acted annoyed and asked if I wanted them to just stop the work and I could hire somebody else.
Of course that seemed so ludicrous at that point. He just said he had been in the business for such and such years and you either trust me or not. Meanwhile I am stuck with half the work done. Was so accomodating when he booked the job but his true self just came out as soon as I questioned anything. They were trying to do everything on the cheap. Don't use this business!

My wife and I are very appreciative of the professionalism and quality work exhibited by Gary Hohne and his Hohne Pools team over the course of our pool renovation! Hohne Pools did a complete refurbishment of the tile, coping and plaster for our gunite pool, and they did an absolutely brilliant job. Furthermore, their turnaround time (from receiving the initial Hohne Pools proposal, to the completion of the renovation work) was also impressively quick.
Pool plaster, in particular, requires an highly experienced team of specialists to do well - and Hohne Pools delivered beyond expectations. Gary Hohne's expertise was demonstrated in every facet of the process, and his team's high-quality work speaks for itself. Every time we step into our pool, we're reminded of how happy we are that we selected Hohne Pools!

Hired Hohne pools last summer to repoint my pool fountain. A contractor showed up and left after 3 hours said he had to leave. I paid up front to have minimum four hours done and was willing to pay more if it took longer to get the job done right. Followed up numerous times and got an email last fall saying he would complete the job this spring. I followed up numerous times and got the same story they would come out before Memorial Day. Of course got lip service. Learned my lesson should have checked the reviews.

This was the worst experience I've had with a pool service. My call was scheduled between 9 am and 11 am. I called three times before I got a personat around 2:30 who told me they were on their way. They arrived at 3 pm. They dumped the stinky stuff from the pool cover on my lawn and left it there. Then they balled up the dirty pool cover and left it on the patio.
They failed to install the steps correctly, and they were floating and useless. When they plugged in the filter they told us it didn't work. When we asked if the turned the switch on they said there wasn't a switch! ( there is a switch- it says "on-off right on the pump) The kicker was that they left the hose clamps and skimmer basket INSIDE THE FILTER PUMP BASKET!
No wonder the pump wouldn't work right! The pool was green when they left, and remained green because the pump couldn't do its job. I called the owner, Gary. I was told that opening the pool didn't mean it would be clear. If we wanted to have it cleaned that would be extra. (Why did I pay $30.00 for chemicals?) He asked me what I wanted him to do.
I told him I wanted someone out on Monday at my convenience to install the steps properly, clean up the lawn and properly clean and fold the pool cover. (My very kind neighbor came over and fixed the filter and pump) He said he couldn't come out on Monday afternoon. That is my only available time, and i didnt trust him on my property without my supervision, so I asked for a refund.
He said "we don't give refunds". No other alternatives were offered by him. He was snarky with me, asking why I didn't get the pool service I had before to open the pool this year, asking me if I was "ready to listen", etc. $398.00 got me absolutely nothing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!

When I initially called Gary he came out literally that day his price was to me the next day I was so impressed with how fast he got the contract to me that I hired him. The job was simply a half-day job to replace the pool liner. First he promised me two weeks. Then it was three then it was four and crew came after four weeks. The work was not bad.
But by the time he came so did all the other bids from other company's. Gary Hohne's contract was a consistent two thousand hire than ALL THE OTHERS. Then he attempted to hit me with an unapproved extra of 600. I refused to pay it. He has no company. NO address on his contract. The trucks that came did not have his name on them. He subs it ALL out.
He is a con man. Big smile fast to get price in because he does not want to be compared to. But over all bad contractor. Had other work done to pool by another local who did me right. DO NOT USE HOHNE POOL

I have been around the block with pool service companies. Thankfully, I finally found Hohne Pools. Every employee know what they are talking about. They actually know chemistry. There testing is accurate and their advise on which products to use are spot on. They too are excellent and efficient. They show up on time and everything goes smoothly. They advised me to open early (yes early April) and close late.
By opening early and having a mesh cover, I need way less shock and I saved a few hundred dollars. You could not get a better pool company and I know since I tried and failed with at least 6 others.

This company is the worst. Owner came to my house and promised a replacement vinyl liner for my in ground pool within 2 -3 weeks. Told me that his price was the same as everyone else's. Asked for 1/3 down. So shame on me for not checking him out first. His price was about 30% higher than everyone else. And he didn't tell me he has no installers but instead contracts everything out.
We are at week 6, still no pool. And then he contacts me and says the liner will be installed in a few days he wants full payment right away. Rip off Company! Stay away! There are plenty of other good people to work with out there in the Baltimore area.

I opened my pool yesterday to find the liner was coming out of the beading. I called Hohne Pools and eventually, spoke with owner Gary Hohne. When I explained the problem, he said he had to see it, that he could come take a look at it and try to fix it. He said he could show me what to do so if it ever happens again I would be able to fix it. His price was $140.00 to show up and $70.00 for each 1/2 hr.
He happened to be available and so came just then. He looked at the liner, bent down and pulled on the edge and told me it couldn't be fixed. He said the liner was too old 6 years old, it's no longer pliable, that I needed a new one and that it would cost $4,800.00. He looked around the yard, examined the filter and the pump and told me I had a bottom of the line filter, that it was high maintenance and his company would have never installed such a filter.
He then shook the adjacent PVC pipe with his foot and said it was a shoddy job, he couldn't believe somebody would do that. Today I called Admiral. They came today and fixed the problem with the liner for under $200.00.

The owner Gary Hohne from HOHNE Pool was here and when I questioned him about why the water was so low in the deep end. He got very rude and said " your trying to get a liner for free". I said "are you kidding me". We need asnwers on why this happened. He turned around and said "i don't need to hear this "F" #$@. as he went to his BMW. Mike said hey I don't talk to your wife like that and your a professional business man.
I will report your company. He said that does not scare me, do what you got to do. but if you don't do something soon your walls could collape, we need him more than he needs us. Wow

I should have read prior review to stay away, and boy did i learn the hard way! They should rename their company to Horrible pools, service absolutely Horrific, their manager hung up the phone in the middle of the conversation twice! had a bad attitude and did not try to resolve/help at all. Make a mistake to hire them to close and open my pool this past year.
When they closed my pool, the chemicals were balanced and pool was in perfect condition. However, when they opened my pool it was a disaster in which they refused to help!(they closed and opened it) Had my pool for the past 5 years and never ever EVER had such a horrific experience, AVOID at all cost!

DO NOT TRUST GARY HOHNE! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and SLOPPY CRAFTSMENSHIP. Hohne Pools over promised and totally under delivered. Summer of 2013, against our better judgment we hired Hohne to do a remodel on an old pool we had. After signing in April we were promised a 3-4 week completion. "A turnkey project, put back 100% the way it was". It took Hohne 16 weeks to do 9 days of work! Gary made us pay $26,000 after two days of work and then they disappeared for 5 weeks.
The only time Gary or his Superintendent Tom came around is when he needed money. Tom and his son are incompetent. Beware. On top of that they destroyed an existing pool light they refused to replace, abandoned a drain we wanted to keep, told us that the electrical for the pools was not included in the remodel after the fact, took numerous short cuts, broke coping stones that took weeks to replace, poured concrete into the skimmers, and trashed our property. I'm still cleaning up after these folks!
As of August 1, 2013 we were not swimming. We finally opened on August 17th. April signing folks! Save yourself the headache and leg work and hire a company that knows what they are doing and actually cares about customer service. Thanks to Gary Hohne and Hohne pool my family's summer was completely ruined. Gary is riding his father's success and reputation. I'm fully convinced that he and his people write their own reviews'. I wouldn't recommend Hohne to my worst enemy! Be smart people!
