Short review: Lack of long term customer appreciation, high prices, friendly staff. I'm not going to complain about the employees, they were following store policy and were polite. This is a review for the business as a whole. I went to return a hose for my parents which they had purchased an hour earlier. They insisted on a 20% restock fee, or in store credit.
After going to this shop ever since I was a child with my parents, it's extremely disappointing to see them refuse to budge over 15 bucks. It's not unreasonable to assume a local business would treat long time customers with a little bit of slack, considering the hose was in stock, purchased an hour prior, and with cash. The hose was 75 dollars (they are like 35 online).
Maybe this is why they currently don't mark prices in store. An employee told my mom that the reason there were no price tags on anything, is because they were in the process of increasing prices. Look, I'm not so upset that we're out 15 bucks, but I've watched my family spend thousands on this place growing up. We appreciate all our local businesses. But for 15 bucks, they lost not only long time customers, but any chance of myself using them in the future. Go to Champion Pool in Delta.

I have been giving this store my business for the past 15+ years. Went in for first time this summer and bought a vacuum hose that cost me right around $75! When I got home, I realized that I didn't need it after all. So, I sent my son to return it less than an hour later, with my receipt. However, they still insisted on charging me the 20% restock fee! (My son offered to set it back on the shelf for them if that was an issue.) So, as far as I am concerned, that is nothing less than legal theft!
As much money as we have spent in that store over the years, I certainly hope it was worth the $15 they kept! Because now, I will never do business with them again. From now on, I will either buy online (which I don't like to do if I can help out our local businesses), or just drive to Delta. It really makes no difference to me. It is about same distance either way.
As a small business owner myself, I certainly hope I never treat my customers that way. It just does not seem like a wise business decision in the long run. They definitely are gonna lose more money than they made off of me. *Also, this was the first time I had ever needed to return an item. I am just so very, very disappointed!

Defiance Water Recreation installed our in-ground pool 9 years ago. Our family has enjoyed it year after year. It was one of the best decisions we made, having Shelby and his crew enhance our backyard. Having a local company who has been in business over 39 years was important to us in deciding who would do the installation.

I bought a hot tub from them. I found a spa in Toledo that I liked better, but decided to stay local for their advertised "service after the sale". The spa had white mold and the owner would not help my problem. They would sell me lots of chemicals. They have no loyalty to their customers so you should have no loyalty to buy local from them. Head to Toledo or Fort Wayne.

Update: Shelby from water rec contacted me a few days later. He reviewed everything and was willing to come out to look at the problem. He made some adjustments and corrected the problem. Called me afterwards and explained what he did and gave some tips for future reference. This is the kind of service that brings customers back. Thanks Shelby! Bought 2 hot tubs and a pool from this place had no problems with service.
Our latest hot tub needs looked at for a problem I asked them to address in August. 1st they gave misleading information saying I had to call customer service @the manufacture totally false. Called water rec back they say they will send technicians out depending on what they find 125$ fee, For the service call. Said manufacturers dictates price, sounds like BS to me.
When u sell something you should back it. They make enough $$$ on the spa This place has really went down hill in the past 2 years. This will be our last purchase from Defiance Water Recreation!
