Our mission is to provide San Diegans with the best pool for the best value while dealing with a trusted contractor, thus, making your pool experience a pleasant one. We want to be the pool company that builds your next pool, too, even if that's in another twenty year. Since 1985, we have been building timeless concrete swimming pools for residents of San Diego and the surrounding area.

We offer innovative designs and high-quality products to match your style whether it be contemporary, modern, classic, etc., turning your vision into reality in your own backyard!
Services
We have a reputation for superior quality, innovative designs, and personal supervision by the owner through all phases of your swimming pool construction. Over the years, our business has grown from just Jack and Mary, to Josh (the oldest son) and Jessica (the youngest daughter). After all, who expects higher quality than a family with the responsibility to live up to its valued reputation? I remember vividly my father coming home frustrated as the general manager of one of the Blues Brothers here in San Diego in my childhood.
Add ambiance to your pool with lighting features. Set your pool or spa to a single color or select from a variety of colors to set the tone of the evening. Coping is the one-foot section on the outside of the pool that separates the pool from the decking. Some choices are considered upgrades and will incur an extra charge.
After signing the contract, the first step of your San Diego swimming pool construction is for a representative to draw up building plans from which the subcontractors will work. All specifications, sizes, and equipment locations will be on your plan. It's important that you thoroughly inspect the plans to make sure that they accurately reflect the vision you have for your yard.
Ask everybody you can if they know a good pool contractor: Neighbors, friends, HOA, City Building and Safety Department, and your local Chamber of Commerce are places to start. Check all potential builders' license status at the California State Contractor's license board (www.cslb.ca.gov). You can check to see if the builders are currently licensed and have a clean record, and if they have the required workers' compensation insurance, liability insurance, and bond.Do an internet search about the contractors you want to have out-you'll learn that not all San Diego pool contractors are alike.

Thank you for finally taking care of the cracks. We appreciate the follow through and although we waited very long, they came through to finish. Thanks

We had Superior Pools build us a pool a little over a year ago and it took 6 months to complete, which isn't long during COVID time compared to friends we've talked to that took 9+ months. I'm writing this review now because I wanted time for my family to use the pool to determine if any issues arose. We love the outcome of the pool.

Since completion it has been used almost on a daily basis, even prior to being able to heat it. Our visitors complement us on its design and aesthetic. Jessica was attentive to what we wanted for our pool. Being that our construction was during the height of COVID, SP got the job done. The project wasn't without its issues. When we were getting initial estimates and finalizing plans, we asked about fencing/gates, specifically our double gate that we kept locked and would be direct access to the pool from outside, and if there would be expectations to make changes.

We were told no, the double gate wouldn't be an issue even though it opens in instead of out, but our single gate on the other side would be an issue and needs to be reversed to open out and self closing which we were fine with since it's an easy fix. When the inspector came, he found several issues 1) pool was filled with water before they were authorized to do so (luckily we weren't asked to drain it); 2) SP's did not leave/post construction permit and documentation so we had no idea what the inspector was talking about when he asked for it (SP rep was not present); and 3) we failed inspection because of the double gate!

This bothered me the most because we specifically asked about it. Replacing the gate would've been expensive so in order to pass inspection, we had to permanently weld it shut which sucked because we liked having easy access to that side of our backyard. Another thing that bothered be was that SP didn't put in a French drain where excess water from the automatic cover would drain into and when asked about putting one in, they were going to charge us additional.

We ended up putting it in ourselves last minute because the crew was going to backfill all the holes in preparation of landscapers coming in to out in our turf. Communication at times was good, but at other times difficult and would get run around. Scheduling was often last minute which was ok since it was during COVID and someone was always home.

My only recommendations would be to make sure to have them address all concerns, be familiar with your city's requirements (call and ask questions about fencing etc.), and avoid 1"x1" tiles or smaller (they tend to fall off even with repeated repair which is apparently common). Overall, we're pleased and enjoy our pool.

A pool is being installed at a home across the street & two houses down. Every day the contractor (Superior Pools & Spa) parks his vehicle /trailer in front of our home not the home getting the work done! Trash day the contractor parked his truck/ trailer in front of our home & moved all of our trashcans to the Middle of the street. I had to move cans out of street!

The truck has left rocks, dirt and debris. Today the crew left trailer parked all day & overnight in front of our home! Where are we supposed to park? Why can't they park vehicles in front of the home doing construction at? Tried to ask nicely and left a note on truck window and driver tossed onto the ground! Disrespectful! Uglies our beautiful street & community!

Sad to say, from the dig of June 2, 2021 and three months later after the owner said the pool should be done by end of the month (Jan 2022); the pool is still in stagnant water of filth. We have been pumping water off the pool since the rain we have been having. The inspection failed 3 times, coming from a business that states "experienced pool construction company".

I will keep you posted throughout this project to let all know that this company is not what the rave reviews is about and for you to decide if the company is worth doing business with.

Seeing the reviews on yelp and google reflect what i also have experienced. Had signed a contract in 9-20-19. long story short i had to hold everyone's hand for their own work. They don't have guys that perform on a pro level. Cheap hired labor that under performs. Poor communication, poor quality on my slide install and just about everything else. Things on the pool install had to be done multiple times.

I had a pipe leak under the pavers, total nightmare. latest issue is, the slide keeps cracking really, really bad, from day one. They have been out here through the years to try to keep fixing it, nothing seems to work, total lemon slide. they tried adding more concrete and rebar and it actually cracks worse now. contacted them last November and had to wait months.

Well now were in March of the next year and it still isnt taken care of. Infact they came back and painted the final coat over a very bad crack repair which left indents and bumps over the slide. i had to force them to talk to the manufacturer of westcoat to find out how to install this correctly with their advice. I ended up talking to them myself.

I still have to hold the hand of every employee that comes here. Getting them out to finish is very difficult. They were suppost to come last week and now this week, aaaaand now put off to next week. I dont believe them anymore.went after bond today and wrote this review. Pool ended up nice but a complete nightmare of a company to work with and my slide is an ongoing liability. People already harmed.

UPDATE POST - While Josh can say we are difficult customers it doesn't change the fact he took 69% of our money to be exact and only delivered 45% of the project then ran away. We had EVERY intention of making the final payment when the pool was complete and told Josh, his father, The State License Board and the Bond Company this EXACT information.

His post and the details in his post were inaccurate and incorrect - especially his breakdown of what's been paid and not paid and the breakdown of what is owed. But thanks for sharing and posting confidential inaccurate numbers and our last name publicly Josh. Clearly your lack of education and business management shows loud and clear. Ever heard of privacy laws?

Well you would know about them if you had a contractor's State license and learned the laws of contracts. It's all good - I did a screen shot of your post and will pass it along to the lawyer, state board and bond company. The fact is - when looking for other companies to finish our pool - everyone knows everyone in the pool industry and we quickly found out no one wants to do work with or for Superior Pools.

They don't want to do any work for your father, sister or you. These companies I contacted told me that Superior Pools calls them begging them to finish parts of their jobs. All these companies say No to Superior Pools. Every one of them told us this several times. I contacted close to 10 different companies / subs. I was shocked to hear that news and it confirmed Superior's reputation.

They all can't believe how much money they took from us for what we got in return and said "it's not surprising". This is coming from several very reputable companies. Superior's employees and subs constantly complained to us throughout the project that they were taking months to get paid and weren't happy. That says it all. Their "business plan" or "operation" is to steal from Peter to pay Paul. Oh, and about the electric cover and the vault that holds it - that was the one feature we desperately wanted.

We did NOT choose to eliminate that feature - Superior Pools didn't dig the pool in the correct spot to allow for the vault. Our only option was to rip out 6 feet of our newer cement on our covered patio in order to make the vault fit. That was not an option! Just another lie out of Josh's mouth that we wanted to remove that from the project. everyone knew that was our favorite feature the pool would have had and again, we so desperately wanted. Pathetic, that Superior Pools and their employees don't know space requirements for features.

No wonder you are the laughing stock of this town in your industry. Do your homework and research before hiring a pool company and ask the tough questions. I would say - don't even think about calling Superior Pools for a quote. One last little fun tid bit of information - we have a claim against their bond and were just notified last week from the bond company that there are several claims against their bond from their customers.

They have to sort out each complaint now. Does this sound like a reputable company you would like to hire? I'm guessing its going to go downhill super fast now for Superior Pools. Don't become a victim.

I'm not sure how to reply to "Amber S." But clearly my point was missed. Pool is still incomplete and other issues surrounding poor communication and unreliability was the point. Still one star. You have my number and address so feel free to call or better yet, let's address this face-to-face to avoid further miscommunication. I appreciate the call I received, but won't believe it until the project is actually complete.

I wish I had the time to really get down to every detail on why I would never recommend this business to anyone. I will leave it at they have the most unprofessional business practices I have ever dealt with. While we now have a pool, it is an ongoing saga of still not being completed after nearly eight months from start of permits. They do very little in the way of addressing your concerns or questions. Often, they glance over problems created by their subcontractors.

Their electrician, Joey, was very unreliable, to the point he quit on the job because we didn't want someone working at our house at 8:30 p.m. They left out details that were in the contract. Scheduling the project seemed nonexistent and we are well past the complete date on a very simple project. Yet, they were very quick to come to our house to pick up payments. All in all, it has been a very emotionally exhausting experience and I wish I'd have paid more for less at this point.

We are so glad we chose superior pools! They truly exceeded our expectations. We had 4 quotes and their contract was the most transparent. Jessica and her entire team did a phenomenal job from start to finish. All calls and texts were quickly responded by either Jessica or her assistant Jordan, and best of all. They finished my pool 3 weeks early! I highly recommend superior pools!

Josh is the man! Even with Covid and supply issues he managed to finish our pool with not much delay. The finished product is awesome. From the initial dig, to the plumbing, to the coping and pebble, each phase was done by professionals with years of experience. The best thing about this company is that you are not just another customer; you become part of the family with years of pool building experience. Highly highly recommended.

Superior pools came to our home and met with us. He took down all of the information of what we were wanting and some measurements of our yard and said he'd get back to us after he came back from vacation with the estimate. We NEVER heard a word back.

-Called Superior and Josh came out to provide a quote. -Set an appointment for the following Friday @ 2pm to go over his design and cost estimate. -He called me at 2:45 that Friday and asked if we had an appointment. Told him it was at 2 which he replied that he thought it was the next day. - He proceeded to tell me that he and his son had sore throats so he couldn't make it anyway but would go into the office later and email me the designs. -He did not send the email. Instead, he "butt dialed" me at 11:30 pm that evening.

His voicemail consisted of him, and who I presumed were his kids, yelling at each other. -That was on 7/9/21. Still have yet to receive any communication from him or the company.

Our salesperson blew us off again. I asked him two weeks ago to send us a rendering anything. Nothing after promises. We had an appointment Saturday he no showed and finally texted us (no call) and said we are having problems on a job what's your availability later he will make anything work. We told him a couple of options or said the next day anytime.

We waited all day and the next no text backs nothing. We will be using another company to do out build I don't know what kind of problems in production they are having but the start with just getting someone to show up and call back is beyond awful. Would you trust tens of thousands of dollars to a company who can't live up the basics of a commitment or communication?

Superior pools completed our project on time per our contract. We were getting a little worried towards the end of construction due to a big bday party we bad planned for our son. But Superior finished strong and on time. Our son's birthday party was a hit and everyone enjoyed the new pool! When it came time for the "start up" portion of our pool service we encountered some very important and helpful people. Ian was great at explaining how things worked and getting all the filtration schedules going & programmed.

In the end it was Cory and Martin (which we learned are new additions to Superior) who took care of a few punch list items, these guys are seasoned pros and work very quickly. They corrected some plumbing concerns, and basically polished everything up. Cory was very responsive in communication and came through when he said he would, thumbs up and thank you!

On 3/18 I contacted Jessica requesting an estimate for new pool construction. We made an appointment for 3/29 @ 1pm. ONE, she showed an hour later. Very nice, very friendly, she walked the property, she gave us some info, and in the end she said she would draw up a design. We made a 2nd appointment for 4/15 @12pm to go over the design, specifics and the numbers. TWO, the day of appointment I get a text at almost 10:30 from Elio, stating our appointment is cancelled because they're stuck in meeting all day.

He says they will email me the design to go over. Me trying to be understanding and patient, I say "oh ok". I give him my email address. THREE, after a couple hours had passed I texted Elio to ask when I would be receiving the design. I NEVER HEARD BACK from either one. :| I'll just have to keep looking.

From Desert to Oasis Jessica and Bruce, The Dream Team, were absolutely just that! A friend highly recommended them. They love their pool, as do their neighbors who referred them. Upon an initial visit with Jessica and Bruce, we were about sold, but of course, we still met with four other pool contractors and continued to research. In the end, SUPERIOR POOLS won more than our bid, but hearts in the final design that captured our vision through Bruce's unique design.

Thank you, Bruce! The process is a long one-it took us five months because of Covid. However, we referred our friends, and it has been a quicker process for them. Jessica stays taking care of her clients just as she WILL for you. Throughout the process, she has been open and honest when we have addressed our concerns. She ensures total customer satisfaction by being there every step of the way, which helped understand the many differences in the numerous choices they have in their showroom in selecting our tile, coping, and pebbletec. Rest assured, Jessica and her team will get the job done. We are delighted with our new oasis.

Very personalized service. Jack and Josh really made us feel safe and secure that our project was moving forward and that all of our requests were being taken care of. They came out to begin designing the pool and had the technology to create a preliminary rendering on the spot. From there, when actual construction began, the subcontractors were all very professional and respectful toward us and our property.

The worker who came out to do the quartzite around the edge and the tile, worked for hours into the night and over the weekend in 100+ degree weather.we were very impressed. We are very happy with the final product and highly recommend Superior Pools!

LOOK.They had to jackhammer over a yard of concrete from our newly completed gunite pool! Because they had extra material, they decided to use it in the center of the pool, thus creating a huge high spot. The road to completion and thereafter has been nothing short of HORRIBLE. Every step of the way was an absolute battle. I could go ON AND ON. The communication is horrific, from scheduling to knowing when the next trade is going to be there. When, and if, the trade does show up, the instructions from Jessica to the workers were not conveyed properly, causing a lot of extra time and having to redo the work.

I had to babysit ever step of the way, taking time off work or having my wife manage the guys and what they were to do. Towards the end Jessica and I were done doing business. Josh ( the owners son) took over, not any better. Superior Pool's management was non-existent. I used to receive calls back during the process, but not since having paid them in full.

It has been several months, and very few items have been addressed. In the last two months, no return calls at all. Jessica stated, "I'm glad you didn't give us a bad review because we want to be there through your warranty." Sounds like a threat to me? I regretted signing with them after the second week. Early on I did refer them to others; I have since recanted those words.

Five months later, I still don't have a final receipt of full (cash) payment, of which I requested for the last five months. I truly wish they did and would have handled things differently. They left my yard in shambles. "We'll make it look like we were never there." Huh. I've always said, "Say what you do and do what you say."

SO HAPPY WE CHOSE SUPERIOR! Let me start by saying we shopped around with about 5 different pool companies and ultimately selected Superior Pools to do the job. Jessica and Bruce came out to do the consultation (after first coming out and getting measurements and hearing what we wanted) and we were very impressed with their presentation. They are a big pool company with lots of experience and jobs going on, but with very much the local family feel. Jessica is actually the daughter of the founder of the pool company and she was able to make executive decisions on the project and price right there with us.

They had great software to digitally show us their renderings and were able to make adjustments right there with us, listening to what we would like to alter or change. They easily made adjustments and came up with the perfect plan for us. Best part was, their initial estimate for the cost was VERY close to what we budgeted. She worked with us right there in that consultation to get to the right price (without sacrificing size of the pool or things that were important to us).

One of the other things we loved was that they pretty much only use top quality products as their standard. Pebble Tec, Saltwater system, Travertine Coping, Pentair all standard. Most of the other companies we spoke to gave us a price and then if you wanted any of this is was considered a significant upgrade. Once we selected Superior, Jessica was in constant contact with me from then on through the whole project.

Very easily accessible and always there with an answer or solution. The project takes a little bit to either get started or get to certain stages due to permits and other factors, and this is common. On this note most importantly, we had a big 1st birthday planned for our boy and planned to use the Pool area for it and really hoped it could get done in time.

We signed the contract at the very end of May and the party was to be on Aug 22nd. Just shy of three months. Jessica pulled out every stop to ensure that our party would be able to happen the way we wanted with the pool completed. She totally delivered! The finished product: amazing work, excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail was on point. It looks really beautiful and we love the pool and spa.

One of the other really cool things about Superior is that they have all the things needed in house (or at least at their disposal and wrap everything including landscaping, decking, pavers, etc. all in the price. They have their own workers who handled our pavers which was a big deal. Some companies just do the pool /spa and you have to figure out hardscape on your own. Bottom line, if you are thinking about getting a pool, you can't go wrong with Superior. I highly recommend them!

Having a pool has been a life-long dream for us. The team at Superior Pools & Spas made it a reality. Jessica and Bruce, from start to finish made this entire project possible. From showing us that it was possible to fit a pool and spa in our backyard, to making the entire process easy and worth the wait. It only took 2.5 months to complete and now we can't seem to get enough of our own pool. Many thanks to Superior Pools for a fantastic job. We recommend them to everyone who wants a pool and spa.

Update- 8/14/2019. Changed from 2 stars to 5. Josh made good on 2 major issues. Installed a hand rail in shallow end to help with the stairs and modified the surface and appearance of the slide. Thanks Josh for your attention to these issues.
